So I've decided that I'm going to drop out of school and become a professional bum.
I'm going to live on the grate outside Ihouse, where I'll be sure to stay warm during those cold, lonely winter nights. I'm going to have a grocery carriage to push around, and it's going to be full of cans and knick knacks and small cats. I'm going to shower when it rains, and I'm not going to do a thing to my hair. Wendy Bingman would be proud.
If I'm feeling sociable, I'm going to go to the park across from the shops at Penn and lounge about on the benches, making small talk with the man that speaks to his hand and the one that shouts things if you get too close. I'll make friends with the other cart pushers, and maybe I'll trade cans for cats, or vice versa. When I get hungry I'll dig through the GW garbage cans sprinkled around campus; particularly the ones near Cone E and J Street. If I get bored, I'll wander the streets, pushing my cart and talking to my cats, and mowing down annoying Freshman who don't know how to walk fast enough. And maybe - just maybe - I'll get to spend some time with Old Man Schenley.
In other words, I hate school and I hate classe and I don't want to do my homework. |

So I currently have about an hour and 45 minutes until I have to leave to catch my flight at Logan. I should be packing and showering, but the urge to crawl back into bed is overwhelming. Over the past three days, I've gotten up at 8, 7:30, and 8:45. While this doesn't seem to early to some, for me it's like starting my day at 4am. I tend to NOT be a morning person.
Woe.
Break was uneventful. It was great to see Melissa and Jen again. As for everyone else... well, Ashley was sick all week, Brad was working all week, Jay was MIA all week, Cheese was in Georgia (??) Lisa was at school, Mark was visiting Lisa at school, and Mike's running around the dirrrty south. So yeah, uneventful. None of the stories of winter break, sadly, but it was still nice to be back with the biffles.
Now I have to go before I have to walk the dogs.
Oy. |

| [ | mood |
| | ouch, my chest | ] |
| [ | music |
| | jazz and rory snoring upstairs | ] | H'okay.
Am alive.
I have bilateral cervical ribs, which occurs in .5-1% of the population (go me). It often leads to thoracic outlet syndrome, which they think it is. I would have/already have arterial TOS, which occurs on one side of the body and often occurs in young people. It's rare and it'ss caused by a congenital anomaly. Symptoms can include sensitivity to cold in the hands and fingers, and numbness or pain in the fingers. Which explains the numbness I get in my left fingers and hand.
The bilateral cervical ribs can also cause precordial catch, which is the most common cause of chest pain in children and teenagers. It's sudden sharp chest pains that last only a minute or two, and aren't related to activity (I always get these when I'm sitting or lying down). When the pain is present it hurts to cough or breathe deeply, and they may occur several times a day but more usually once or twice a week. Luckily it's not a disease or heart problem, and it gradually becomes less frequent as you get older, although most adults still get it from time to time. So that explains the sharp pains where I can't breathe for a minute.
The last thing, which ties it all together, is costochondritis, which is an inflammation of a rib or the cartilage connecting a rib (doctors before have thought it was an inflammation of the cartilage surrounding my ribs, so yay for some consistency). This is a common cause of chest-wall pain. Inflammation or injury involving the chest muscles is another common cause of chest-wall pain. As the deep pain really started after high school, they think it's from being a base in cheerleading, and from when I hurt my chest last year at school, and again over the summer.
Basically, the first numbness and sharp pains, which are the most often and the pains I've had since I was about 8, are caused by rib stuff in my back, and while painful and annoying, they're normal and they mostly go away. The second, and the aches and tenderness are from the cartilage inflammation, which luckily I can have painkillers prescribed for, and while they're more painful and longer lasting than the other things, they do heal over time, and there are things that can be done for it.
So yay for my heart and lungs being in good shape, and yay for it being annoying and painful, but not life threatening. Annoying and painful I can deal with. Life threatening, yeah, I'm not so good at that.
Now I can finally go to bed, because tomorrow = Sam which = Yay :) |

[Feb. 28th, 2005|03:31 pm] |
So I promised myself that I'd behave, and I will. Mostly.
Now, this has been the BEST semester, hands down, and I'm having an absolute blast. My friends are amazing (let's hear it for the Tender Bud Oopsy Pi's! some of the greatest friends that anyone could ask for), my boyfriend makes me v. happy, the sorority rocks, and I have the best new roommate ever :) And to my Biffles from home, I know we don't talk as much, now that we're all busy, but I miss you guys, and I can't wait to see you over Spring Break!
Unlike previous semesters, I'm relaxed. It's an amazing feeling. After all the absolutely ridiculous drama and the pointless going ons and all the other stupid crap, I'm out of it all, feeling happy and NOT stressed out. Seriously, I was talking to my mum on the phone the other day, and when she asked how I was, I said "relaxed" and was surprised to find out that I really meant it. Before, I was so high strung; I was letting the stupidest things get to me, and rather than being the bigger person, I fed right into it. Now I'm just happy. I'm surrounded by the people I want to be surrounded by. I'm going out when I want, with who I want, I'm doing what I want, and I'm not feeling like I have to answer to anyone's stupid demands. I feel in control again, and I'm happy with what I'm doing.
I'm so ridiculously glad that I made the decision to move in with Sarah (and even happier that she suggested it in the first place), I really couldn't have made a better choice. I wouldn't have really wanted a single, because I actually like having people over and going out a lot, and I want to have a room that's open and where people can hang out and stay over and do whatever they want, and Sarah's so great about being lenient and open and welcoming to everyone. Not to mention that I don't have to worry about being lonely (not with all our coloring and napping and bad tv watching :))) )
It's rather amusing to see that some people, however, can never really be happy. It's sad when you're happiest when you're the most miserable. I'm sick to death of dealing with people that have to try to drag everyone down, and have to latch onto people because they have nothing better to do. Get over it, and get over yourselves. You might think you're being so wickedly funny and devious by the stupid little things you do, but really? Oh my god, get a life.
With that said, I'm off to get some work done and then procrastinate with Sarah. Roomie love, ya'll. |

I had a dream I moved into the Phi Sig house and I slept in the kitchen. At least I had the entire room to myself ;)
Now I really do wanna live in the house next year. Hopefully with many from our NM class :) Ahhh I can't wait, and I really hope I can get in lol.
In other news... I have made a list of things I want to do this upcoming semester. They are as follows:
- Have a blast at the Inaugural Ball - Get through Recruitment and still find time to sleep - Make sure Court and Cat come to visit :) - Make sure Mike comes to visit :) - Make sure Melissa and Jen and Ashley come to visit :) - Figure out my rooming situation - Find a better balance between going out, staying in, and getting work done - Get my GPA up!!!!!! (luckily I like all my classes this semester, lol) - Find a freaking salon in the city that I actually like (and trust with my hair) - Figure out how to keep my posters from falling off walls - Study more (hahahhaha) - Get the ability to drink an *entire* bottle of Arbor Mist (without the half cup that usually goes to Jen, heh)
Okay so yeah, that's a good start :)
And in other other news, North Carolina is much fun :D |
